More About Amanda’s Classes
How to Make the Most of the LIVE presentation and Q & A:
Thanks for entrusting me with your time and investment. Whether you’re new to online learning or a huge fan, here’s how to get the most out of our time together.
Class usually opens 5 – 10 minutes prior to start time.
I open up the room early whenever possible to give you a chance to check your audio settings and make sure everything is working properly on your end. I might have music playing or be chatting informally with people as they join. Though I encourage everyone to experiment with the text-based chat by sharing where you’re joining from, participation is optional.
Then, at the webinar’s official start time (usually 12 p.m. Central), we start busting free! This is also when the recording starts if you watch the video afterward.
No one can see or hear you during class.
You’re welcome to show up unshowered in pajamas from anywhere in your house! The only person you will see and hear during class is me.
ZOOM 101:
We will connect over Zoom. If you’re unfamiliar with the platform, please keep these pointers handy so you know how to adjust audio, chat with other participants, and ask me questions.
- Audio Settings. If you’re unable to hear any sound during the webinar, please look at the bottom left of your Zoom window for Audio Settings, and click the small arrow to check your settings.
- Live Chat: The chat is where you can exchange text messages with me and the other class participants. Your chat visibility typically defaults to allow only me to see your messages. If you want everyone attending to see your chat messages (and most people do), then you must select “everyone” or “all panelists and attendees” in the chat box. I encourage you to let everyone see your chat messages to build a sense of connection and community. Although the chat is a huge part of online classes, your participation is optional.
If you find the chat distracting and prefer to turn it off, follow these steps:
- Locate the Chat icon at the bottom of the Zoom window.
- Click on the small icon that looks like an arrowhead pointing up.
- Uncheck “Show Chat Previews.”
- Q&A box
We will use the chat box to connect for Q&A. In the Chat box, there is a carrot (down arrowhead) that opens a drop down menu to submit a question that “Everyone” can see or select to send it only to me.
By submitting a question to “Everyone”, other students can see it and comment on it. That lets me know when more than one person is hoping for its answer. You can also comment on a question in writing to offer your own insights or broaden the question. [NOTE: To keep the space safe and educational, this feature should not be used to push an agenda, shame others’ choices, or introduce polarizing comments.]
I will answer these questions to the best of my ability during the live Q & A. If there isn’t time to answer all questions live, I will answer them in writing after class. A Q&A file will be available for download with the recording.
What to Expect During Class:
Each class begins with a brief exercise to help you transition from the “busy-ness” of your life into a learning mindset. Next, I will share a slide presentation on speaker view, so you can see the material and hopefully feel connected to me. Each class includes Q & A time. Sometimes I save all questions for the end; other times, it’s helpful to do Q&A throughout.
It’s not unusual for class to run 15 minutes over (sometimes more!) because of the Q&A period. If you have to leave early, it’s not a problem. The entire session is recorded, and you can catch what you missed later.
I’m here to help.
Though you will get the recording, I know it can be disappointing to anticipate a live presentation and then have tech get in the way. If you have tech trouble or problems joining the class, please reach out to me via email at amanda@amandasavagebrown.com or my tech support support@intersites.com
If I cannot assist you during the live presentation, I will do my best to help you troubleshoot whatever got in your way so it doesn’t interfere with future classes.
If you registered for a class that’s not right for you, or if it doesn’t meet your expectations, please email me directly. I’d rather refund you or point you to another offering that’s a better fit.
